Heart Device Care

Personalized Care for Heart Device Patients

Patients are enrolled in the Cardiac Device Clinic at Core Physicians after placement of a pacemaker, defibrillator or implantable loop recorder.

Patients are evaluated in office as well as monitored remotely per recommended guidelines of patient’s device. A highly trained registered nurse evaluates the pacemakers and defibrillators at routine intervals and makes adjustments as needed. The nurse also performs post-implant wound evaluations and education.

Pacemaker

A pacemaker is a small, battery-powered device that prevents the heart from beating too slowly. It is also known as a cardiac pacing device. There are three different types: single chamber, dual chamber and biventricular.

Defibrillator

An Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) is a small battery-powered device placed in the chest to detect and stop irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias). An ICD continually monitors the heartbeat and delivers electric shock, when needed, to restore regular heart rhythm.

Implantable Loop Recorder

An Implantable Loop Recorder (ILR) is a small device that is implanted under the skin of chest that records the heart's electrical activity for up to 3 years. This is recommended for patients who have an unexplained stroke, unexplained fainting, or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia).
