Our Approach To Breast Reconstruction

At Core Physicians, we offer individualized breast reconstruction solutions combining technical expertise with aesthetic sensitivity.

Kimberly Marble, MD, works closely with you to understand your goals, preferences and medical needs, supporting you through every stage of reconstruction in a caring, confidential environment.

What Is Breast Reconstruction?

Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure designed for individuals who have lost all or part of a breast because of cancer, illness or injury. Its goal is to restore the breast’s size, shape, appearance and symmetry as closely as possible to its pre‐removal state.

While the results may not be identical to the original breast, reconstruction can significantly improve quality of life, self‐image and emotional well‐being.

Reconstruction Options & Techniques

We offer a variety of techniques to match your health, body type and personal preferences. Each patient's plan is custom‐designed, and may include one or more of the following:

  • Flap Techniques: Use your own tissue (skin, fat, muscle) from other body areas to create or cover the breast mound. These may give a more natural look and feel.
  • Tissue Expansion: Gradually stretch the skin in preparation for placing an implant. This allows the skin envelope to accommodate a reconstruction.
  • Implant Reconstruction: Surgical placement of implants (saline or silicone) to restore breast shape when appropriate.
  • Fat Grafting & Specialized Techniques: Using fat transfer to contour or fill areas, refine symmetry, or improve results. Also includes procedures such as nipple reconstruction or areola tattooing.

What To Expect

  • Consultation & Planning: Your first visit begins with a thorough consultation. Dr. Marble discusses your medical history, cancer treatment (if applicable), body‐type, aesthetic goals and reconstructive options. Together you determine which approach is best for you.
  • Multiple Stages: Reconstruction often involves more than one operation — initial reconstruction, refinements, and symmetry adjustments. Some patients may also choose procedures like fat grafting later to improve contour.
  • Recovery & Healing: Healing time depends on the chosen technique. Flap-based reconstructions typically require longer recovery than implants. Pain, swelling and scarring are normal, and your surgeon will guide you on how to manage them.
  • Aesthetic & Functional Outcomes: While reconstructed breasts aim to be as “natural” in appearance and feel as possible, differences in sensation, symmetry, or texture compared to your original breast are common. The goal is to support your physical and emotional recovery.

Special Options

Hidden Scar Breast Cancer Surgery, for eligible patients, is an approach that treats cancer while minimizing visible scarring and preserving natural breast shape to the extent possible.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Reconstruction

Will my reconstructed breast feel the same as my original?

Sensation and texture often differ. Some feeling may return over time, depending on the technique used. Complete restoration of feeling is not always possible.

How long does recovery take?

Varies by procedure. Implant‐based reconstructions tend to have shorter recovery periods; flap procedures are more involved and require more healing time.

When can I see final results?

While initial results are visible after surgery, refinements, healing of scars, and adjustments (such as fat grafting or symmetry surgeries) may continue for many months.

Will insurance cover it?

Many reconstruction procedures are covered under insurance plans following mastectomy or when needed for medical reasons. It’s best to verify your coverage in advance with our team.
